For an assignment in CSR 309, I recently watched a video of a speech by Randy Pausch. He was a professor at Carnegie Mellon University who was dying of cancer and gave one of his last lectures. In his lecture he outlined his childhood dreams, and what he did to achieve (almost) all of them. He talked about taking control of our own lives and being a leader within it. Throughout his speech I could tell he felt helping other people achieve their goals was more important than achieving his own. Dr. Pausch not only believed this but lived it. Out of his speech I realized that being a great leader also meant caring about other people, not just the people you are leading, but everyone in general.

On Monday, after three class meetings missing, we finally had Professor Feinberg to teach a lesson to us. I noticed Randy Pausch's lesson echoed throughout Prof. Feinberg's lecture as well. Prof. Feinberg did not lecture us on how to "lead" people, but instead tried to make us realize that leading by example, by having a fullfilling life, is what leadership is all about.

I always thought blogging was a little too intense for me. Letting the whole world wide web know how I'm feeling in real time seems like an invasion of privacy. But considering I like good grades, and good grades come from doing all the work in a class, and blogging is required for CSR 309, I'm blogging.
